Turns Out, Millions of Invisible Bugs Party on Your Face Every Night
All this time, we’ve been sharing our skin with microscopic mites that have been there for generations. It might sound creepy at first, but these spider-looking mites made a home on our faces just after we were born. It’s amusing how, in a way, we actually benefit from them, but we should always be aware of all the facts about these party-spirited mites before deciding if they’re harmless or not.
We at Bright Side were astounded by these face mites and we want to share what we’ve learned about them with all of you.
They hold important DNA from our past.
These mites have coexisted with us throughout human evolution and the ones found on human faces are actually linked to our ancestors. As we’ve evolved and migrated around the earth, the mites also got to travel with us. So, because of this, scientists can find out where our ancestors lived by researching these mites.
There are 2 mites in just a 3-centimeter square of skin.

There are 2 types of mites that live on our skin and one of them lives on our faces. They are closely related to spiders and live on the oily, greasy parts of the skin and feast off of the oils and cells. Researchers have also found that there are 2 mites living on 3 square centimeters of skin.
They love to crawl in darkness and it seems that they stop moving when there’s any bright light. And usually, the nighttime is when they mate. Once that’s done, they lay eggs in the skin’s pores or hair follicles.
They might cause rosacea or redness on the face.
The mites that live on our faces are harmless. However, things can change if the number increases and causes rosacea, which is redness on specific parts of the face. People with weaker immune systems and skin conditions are at greater risk to develop symptoms. If this happens, a doctor can determine how many mites there are and prescribe medication accordingly.
A small number of face mites can actually be beneficial.
Most cases of mites don’t cause symptoms. They might’ve been living for weeks on your face without you ever even noticing. In fact, in small amounts, these types of mites can be beneficial for your skin. This is because they remove excess dead skin.
Signs that you should take care of your face mites
Since a small number of mites is unlikely to cause any problems or symptoms, there’s no need to worry about it. However, if a large infestation of mites happens on your face, the first thing that you might notice is a roughness of the skin. However, other symptoms, like a burning sensation, increased skin sensitivity, redness, scaly or itchy skin, or eczema can all be signs of face mites. In this case, it’s better to get checked by a dermatologist.
Have you ever had symptoms that might indicate you have too many mites? What interesting facts from this article would you like to learn more about?
