Clear and beautiful skin is one of the main elements of a person’s beauty. One sure way to have healthy and picture-perfect skin is to take care of it every day.

We here at Bright Side have compiled a list of some of the best remedies that will help you to naturally remove blackheads and whiteheads from your nose and face.

Lemon + honey + sugar

Sometimes, we don’t need various chemicals to apply to our skin for maximum effect. We can simply use the naturals, from plants and fruits; which can have a good effect on our skin. However, these natural remedies may also harm us — like honey, for example. It can be hard to take it off since it’s so sticky, and if you may want to make sure you don’t have any allergies.

When it comes to the benefits of honey, there are actually many — it is antibacterial, it has antioxidant components, and it is great for exfoliating your skin by removing dead skin cells. Lemon, on the other hand, might burn and sting your skin, but it also contains the components that honey has. In addition, it can kill off fungus on your skin and lighten it. They can be mixed together only if you’ve tested it on a part of your skin (and haven’t gotten any irritation), you aren’t planning on sunbathing soon, and you only use a little bit of lemon (not too much). This is because honey is safer to use on your skin than lemon is, as it may cause dryness for your sensitive skin.

Cut a lemon in half and pour enough honey to cover the cut surface of the lemon. Then sprinkle the lemon half with two pinches of sugar (it is better to use cane sugar), and gently massage the problem areas with this natural ’sponge’ in a circular motion.

Repeat the procedure no more than once a week.

Vaseline + plastic wrap

The best time to use this trick is right after the shower because the heat from the water will have opened your pores. Begin by applying Vaseline to the affected area that needs to be treated. Once you have finished with it, place the plastic wrap over the Vaseline. With the wrap still in place, apply a hot towel and let it sit until it cools back down to room temperature. Then use a tissue to remove any excess Vaseline from your face, and gently squeeze the skin where the blackheads are clogging your pores to remove them. The dirt should be pushed out very easily. Finally, wipe a cotton pad soaked in lotion over your skin.

Do this procedure once or twice a month.

Coconut oil + essential oils

Coconut oil has plenty of benefits. It consists of fatty acids that can kill off bacteria and any viruses. Coconut oil may even work better at removing bacteria than actual bacteria-killing treatments that work to get rid of acne and blackheads. However, it is advisable to apply this oil directly on your skin, otherwise the benefits may not rise.

Not only does it prevent bacteria, but coconut oil also has healing properties, like moisturizing your dry skin. If your skin is prone to scarring and damage, this might be your natural blackheads remedy. Although it has properties that heal dryness, it is advisable not to use it if you have oily skin — as this may just add blackheads to your skin.

Essential oils contain vitamins and nutrients that can lead to positive outcomes on your skin. They also help brighten you up and smooth your skin. Try not to use creams at your local store to for moisturization to remove blackheads, because they might have some harmful chemicals. Oils are organic and may be much more effective for your blackhead removal routine. Unlike coconut oil, essential oils are actually good for your oily skin! When you go through hormonal, temperature, or diet changes, your oily skin might react worse — and using an essential oil can help.

In a jar, slightly soften 1/4 cup of coconut oil (10 to 15 seconds in the microwave should do it). Then combine the coconut oil with 10 drops of lemon, lavender, and tea tree oils, and stir well until smooth. Use a cotton ball to apply the solution to your skin in the morning and evening after washing your face.

The mixture should be stored in a sealed jar at room temperature.

Cinnamon + oat flour

Cinnamon is a great herbal ingredient to treat your acne at home. It includes antibacterial components, which means it removes the bacteria located in your skin and doesn’t allow your pores to be clogged. There are a number of toxins in the environment that get stuck in our pores. Cinnamon has the ability to remove the top layer of dirt that’s formed by bacteria, thus making a clean, healthy layer of skin. It also helps reduce inflamed and swollen skin by releasing something called nitric oxide — which can help with removing whiteheads and blackheads.

Mix a teaspoon of oat flour with the same amount of cinnamon powder. Add a little warm water and stir well. The mixture should be the consistency of very thick cream. Gently apply this mixture with your fingertips in a circular motion on your face. Scrub for about 1 minute, and then wash your face thoroughly with cold water. Note please: cinnamon may cause a tingling sensation when applied on the skin, but it will disappear after washing the face.

This trick should be used no more than twice a month.

You can also use cinnamon by itself to remove blackheads on the nose. If you don’t want to apply it on your skin, you may also drink it! Add half a teaspoon of cinnamon to 8 ounces of water to make cinnamon tea. Then, boil it for about 15 minutes and let it sit for a while so it infuses together, and drink it.

Activated charcoal + green clay

Activated charcoal, a popular ingredient in cosmetics, is black in colour and it is a powder that ‘comes to life’ after being exposed to a lot of heat — making it great for getting rid of chemicals and toxins. It’s one of those remedies that help with inflamed, swollen, and red skin, that can also improve your whole complexion. Try to keep in mind that if you have oily skin, it’s best to combine it with green clay, and will thus remove all the leftover oil. If your skin is dry, then it might be best to mix it with oils, such as olive or jojoba oil.

In addition to keeping your skin away from blackheads and whiteheads, it can also treat insect bites! This might come in handy during mosquito season, as mosquito bites lead to itching and swelling. The activated charcoal is great to use to neutralise the toxins that the insects placed on your skin.

Mix 1/2 teaspoon of activated charcoal powder, 1 teaspoon of green clay, and 1/2 teaspoon of warm water together. Mix well until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps. Apply the mask to your face with a sponge or brush. Let the mask sit for a few minutes until it dries completely, then rinse off well with cold water.

This charcoal should be placed on your skin for about 15 minutes. If you do this procedure once or twice a week it should be enough to enjoy clean pores most of the time.

Coconut oil + coffee grounds

Just as coconut oil has plenty of benefits, so does coffee. Firstly, coffee is one of the true exfoliants that scratch off all the unnecessary skin cells. Research shows that it is even great for maintaining healthy skin and has anti-ageing properties. If you want to use coffee to beautify your skin, mix together coffee grounds with brown sugar and lemon juice. When it comes to getting rid of acne, including blackheads, combine 1/2 cup of coconut oil (put it into the microwave to warm up slightly first) with 1/2 cup of fresh coffee grounds. Use some of the mixture immediately, and gently massage your face with circular motions. After scrubbing, leave the mixture on your face for 5 minutes, then use cold water to wash it off thoroughly. Repeat the procedure once a week.

Divide the remaining mixture into muffin tins or ice cube trays and put into a freezer.

Aloe vera + white clay + essential oils

Aloe vera is known as a “wonder plant” and it can be used for many things such as in foods, cosmetics, and herbal routines — no wonder it’s so popular! There are many ways to use aloe vera to treat your blackheads and whiteheads, the first one being applying aloe vera onto your skin solely. You can get aloe vera cream and place it on your skin to get rid of spots that might build up. If you are already pampered with blackheads, then try leaving aloe vera on that area overnight, and wash it off in the morning to solve your problem.

Research suggests that combining aloe vera with tea tree oil can be a major effective way to treat blackheads, and acne in general. Although it isn’t advisable to leave your tea tree oil on your face for too long by itself, mixing it with the wonder plant might not cause any harm.

Start by mixing together 2 teaspoons of white clay and 1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel. Then add 1 teaspoon of plain distilled water and 3 drops of ylang ylang and lavender essential oils. In a glass or ceramic bowl, mix all the ingredients well until the mixture is smooth. Apply the mask to your face with a sponge or brush, and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

This mask can be used twice a month.

Oatmeal + honey + yogurt + olive oil

Place 1/4 cup of oatmeal, 2 teaspoons of yogurt, 2 teaspoons of honey, and 2 teaspoons of olive oil in a food processor, and blend until well combined. Apply the mixture to your clean face, scrubbing in a circular motion for 1-2 minutes. Then wash off with warm water. If you have extremely sensitive skin that seems to be irritated by scrubbing, don’t scrub! Just use the mixture as a facial mask, and leave it on your skin for about 5-7 minutes.

Use this trick once or twice a week.

Sugar + honey + olive oil + vanilla extract

Vanilla isn’t only used to bake your favourite apple pie, but it can be used for your skin too! You can even add some of it to your body wash as it can do wonders for your skin. It includes antibacterial and antioxidant components which help get rid of blackheads and whiteheads, and make your skin glowing instead of red and irritated.

Combine 1/4 cup of white sugar with 1/4 cup of brown sugar in a bowl and mix. Add 1/4 cup of olive oil and stir well. Then mix in 1 tablespoon of honey and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Stir all the ingredients well until smooth, and use this mixture to scrub any problem areas. Rinse off with warm water.

You may use vanilla plainly on your skin without any additions, too. Simply, place bits of vanilla essential oil on your blackheads and leave it overnight. Wash your face off in the morning and you’re good to go to your meeting!

Use this remedy once a week. Store in an airtight jar at room temperature.
