How Stanley Tucci and Felicity Blunt’s Story Reminds Us That It’s Possible to Love Again After a Great Loss

People often say that love can give the strength to overcome any challenge. For Stanley Tucci, who was heartbroken after losing his first wife and facing being a single father of three, falling in love again meant a new beginning. His boldness not only gave him a chance to regain happiness, but also the strength he needed to overcome another major challenge: a battle with cancer.

Bright Side loves stories that inspire everyone to keep high hopes of being happy. So we wanted to share with you this particular one that we think reminds us love can make our life better, regardless of the challenges we have to face.

Three years before facing one of the most painful moments of his life, Stanley Tucci was at the height of his career alongside his wife, Kathryn “Kate” Tucci, at the premiere of the iconic film The Devil Wears Prada. But all was not so perfect, as Kate had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer.

That day, while enjoying the red carpet with the other cast members, the couple met Emily Blunt’s sister, who years later would definitely enter Tucci’s life to become his new love and support.

In 2009 came the fateful day when Kate lost her battle with cancer. Despite the pain, Stanley pulled through with his children, Camilla, Nicolo and Isabel. And it was in July 2010, at the wedding of Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, that he was met again with Emily’s sister Felicity, whom he had seen that one time at the premiere.

Stanley, who is a foodie himself, was amazed at the woman’s appetite. “I’ve never seen someone so thin enjoy her food so much,” the actor told. So they began to talk about their love for cooking and agreed to meet again sometime to try dishes together.

The first time they went out they went to eat at a small restaurant where, even if the food wasn’t great, they had an amazing time. So after that they went to another place. After four hours, the actor couldn’t eat anymore, but Felicity still had enough appetite to order a cheese board. “I thought that was amazing,” Stanley said.

Tucci told that for him, eating well is not just about enjoying the taste of something, but about getting to know someone through food. So, not surprisingly, his relationship with Blunt was meant to be. Some time after their culinary tastings, they began cooking together when she came to visit him in the United States.

It didn’t take long for the actor to know he was ready to give love another chance. In 2011, he proposed to Felicity on a trip to Berlin. However, after getting engaged, he panicked, as he couldn’t help but feel guilty when he remembered Kate. “At first it was very difficult to go on vacation, it was complex to go with Felicity somewhere. I felt guilty,” he explained.

Still, he didn’t let guilt win out over love. The couple married a year later in a private ceremony. A few months later, they had a big celebration, where Emily Blunt was the maid of honor.

After their wedding, Stanley decided to move to the other side of the world and start a new life in London. “I didn’t want to live in Westchester anymore. Once my wife passed away, I was there alone, and what was I doing? For me, this was the healthiest option,” he said in an interview.

In addition, the actor acknowledged the challenge Felicity faced in becoming the stepmother of three teenagers. Still, his new wife accepted it happily. “She cares for the kids as if they were her own,” he told. Later, the couple expanded the family with the arrival of Matteo and Emilia.

While happiness came back to Stanley, he did spend two years suffering from intense jaw pain. Then in 2017 he was diagnosed with tongue cancer. Because the tumor was very large, the actor had to undergo several chemotherapies. In addition, during that time he was unable to eat, so he depended on a tube to feed himself.

This stage was also complicated for the family. “The kids were fine, but it was hard on them,” he recalled. “I had a feeding tube for six months. I could barely make it to the twins’ high school graduation.”

This was a blow to the family’s morale. But still his faithful wife stood by his side. Felicity, in Tucci’s words, stood by him through what he considers one of the most difficult times of his life. “Felicity’s undying attention, affection and encouragement got me through it,” he said.

Blunt, who is a literary agent, even became Tucci’s manager in one of his most important projects: the publication of a cookbook where he shares his experience with cancer and his love for food.

During treatment, the actor had trouble tasting food, lost his appetite and developed mouth ulcers. Still, luck was on his side, and against the odds, he regained his sense of taste. “When you’re forced to live without something you love, just like when you’re forced to live without someone you love, you appreciate it so much more when you can get it back or if you’re lucky enough to get it back,” he told.

Now we can see how Stanley shares his passion on his social networks, teaching his followers different recipes together with Felicity, who not only continues to be his culinary accomplice, but also the proof that life can be more beautiful when we dare to love again.

Who is that person who is always there for you when you need help? If you have dared to fall in love again after having your heart broken, what has your experience been like?
