10 Mistakes in Romantic Movies That Only the Most Observant Fans Will Spot

There are romantic movies that we never tire of watching over and over again. But even if we already know all the scenes and dialogues by heart, there are always small continuity errors we miss that only great observers have been able to find.

At Bright Side, we are sharing great cinematic love stories that had some minor oversights in the editing room.

1. The Notebook

The Notebook is one of the most popular romantic dramas of the century, so surely, many of us have seen it. However, we may not have noticed a small oversight that happens 15 minutes into the movie.

When Noah dares Allie to lie down in the middle of the street, his head is aligned with the lines on the sidewalk, but when she decides to lie down next to him, we can see how he is magically in a different position from the first shot.

2. Love, Actually

Love Actually is a film with a large cast and multiple stories happening at the same time, but its ambition does not free it from having certain mistakes. One of them can be seen in the scene where the character, Mark (Andrew Lincoln), shows his wedding video to Juliet (Keira Knightley).

At the beginning of the scene, we can observe a metal rack in front of some canvases in the room. Then, when Juliet sets up the video at minute 53:10, the shelf disappears, only to reappear in the next shot.

3. Pretty Woman

Pretty Woman was a big hit in the ’90s thanks to the great chemistry between the memorable couple, Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. However, few may have noticed that when they have breakfast together at the hotel, Roberts’ character takes a croissant from the table, which shortly after, at minute 32:10, mysteriously transforms into a pancake.

4. Notting Hill

The great love relationship built between the librarian, played by Hugh Grant, and the movie star, played by Julia Roberts in Notting Hill marked a generation and is one of the most remembered romantic stories of the end of the century.

However, it seems that the magic of love can also change door handles since, at the beginning of William’s interview with Anna, 2 open brass plates can be seen that, from one scene to the next, change to a narrow, closed plate.

5. 10 Things I Hate About You

10 Things I Hate About You is one of the most popular teen comedies of the late ’90s, largely because of the pairing of Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles. One mistake we can notice in that film is when Larisa Oleynik and Joseph Gordon Levitt’s characters enter a room, and the former opens the third drawer of a piece of furniture. However, at the next change of angle, she is seen holding the second drawer.

6. Bridget Jones’s Diary

Renée Zellweger made such a big mark with her Bridget Jones character that we saw her reprise the role in 2 more movies. However, the first movie we saw her in has a continuity error that happens so fast, if you blink, you’ll miss it. It occurs in the scene where Bridget and Daniel (Hugh Grant) are driving and she is holding up her sunglasses and holding her scarf around her neck with her right hand.

When the shot changes and the scarf falls off, her hands are in the complete opposite position.

7. Gone with the Wind

Gone with the Wind is one of the most important classics in the history of cinema, but it is not free of continuity errors. Specifically, there is one, when Rhett’s character carries Melanie out of her room. In the first shot, he finds himself without his hat, which magically appears in the next shot.

8. Groundhog Day

In Groundhog Day, Bill Murray finds himself trapped in a day in a loop for a very long time. But you can see that the magic in the film was already working before since, at the beginning of the film, when the protagonist is giving a report, he has a microphone attached to his suit, which suddenly disappears in the next shot.

9. Dirty Dancing

As Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray’s great love story is about to begin, we can see a mistake. When Baby gets out of the car to enter the camp, her mother’s hair is blonde. However, for the rest of the film, her character is a redhead. This is because the original actress was later replaced at the production stage, and her presence was recorded in that shot.

10. Ghost

Ghost kicked off the ’90s with one of the most memorable love stories of the decade thanks to the couple, Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. But the movie was so good that the director couldn’t help but go on camera, as you can see their reflection of the mirror when they are putting the statue in the apartment.

Bonus: Titanic

With 11 Oscars to its credit and being among the highest-grossing films in history 25 years after its release, James Cameron’s Titanic was a huge success in the world of cinema. However, these things don’t prevent it from having certain mistakes. For example, in the famous presentation of Rose in her youth, we can see that the mole on her face at the beginning is in a totally opposite position to the one she has in the rest of the film.

Do you remember any mistakes from other films? Do you think these mistakes can be overlooked if we still enjoy the films?
