8 Tough Houseplants That Can Survive Almost Any Kind of Trouble

Plants can make us feel good both mentally and physically, and they add a touch of coziness to our homes. Yet, not many of us can spare time for quality plant care. The good news is that there are some low-maintenance plants out there. They are pest-resistant, require minimal watering, don’t care much about sunlight, and look perfect.
Bright Side is introducing you to 8 green buddies that might find a place in your house.
1. Philodendron erubescens
Although the plant is referred to as the “pink princess,” the conditions it grows in can be far from luxurious. You don’t have to water it often, as it’s drought-tolerant. What’s more, it’s also sensitive to sunlight, so you can safely put it in a dimly-lit place where the sun doesn’t shine directly on the plant. Plus, you won’t have to run around looking for remedies for your plants since the Philodendron is insect and disease-resistant.
2. Peace lily
These plants are big fans of organic matter, so you don’t have to buy expensive fertilizer since you can make it yourself. It’s also easy to repot, so there’s no need to feed it for 6 months afterward. In fact, you don’t even have to fertilize it in the first place. Interestingly, it can grow without soil as well, just water alone will do.
3. Dragon tree
These trees can live for centuries, and it’s also one of the cheapest plants. Although it does not require fertilization, you can still add some twice a year — in summer and spring. However, don’t expect it to grow and bloom quickly, it can remain as a single trunk for about 10-15 years. At least you can accidentally neglect it, the tree will stay alive anyway.
4. Asparagus ferns
This evergreen plant should be watered only once a week or when the top layer of the soil dries completely. In addition, it’s also a fast grower, so make sure to trim it often. Keep it away from direct sunlight, otherwise, the soil and foliage will get dried out. The asparagus fern is also indifferent to repotting, it can stay in the same pot for a long time and be just fine.
5. Lady palm
Although these plants can survive occasional droughts, it’s better to water them often. A lady palm doesn’t require a lot of pruning, and new palms can be propagated by division or stem cuttings. Full sunlight won’t harm it, although the leaves might change color in the beginning. Later, the burning on the leaves will disappear, and the plant will simply adjust.
6. Paddle plant
Since it’s a succulent, it prefers dry soil and is at a higher risk of rotting and dying if the soil is moist. Repotting is not recommended, the kind of sunlight doesn’t matter, and only minimal fertilization is required in summer and spring. The only thing you should bear in mind is that overwatering is detrimental to the plant — the roots rot and mealybugs can appear.
7. Weeping fig
This houseplant doesn’t need soil that’s high in nutrients, just make sure the drainage is proper. It grows quickly and becomes enormous outside (depending on the type you have). Do not move it or repot it, as this will be the cause of leaf drop. However, even if it happens, they quickly get back to their former state in a few weeks. The plant enjoys average temperatures in the home, but make sure they are away from heat radiators or air conditioning units.
8. Pancake plant
This one is a tough plant that used to grow on the rocks of the mountains in East Asia. The pancake plant is considered to be one of the easiest plants to care for. It needs a lot of indirect sunlight for fast growth. It’s also very easy to propagate — the plant develops new roots and grows new leaves within a few weeks.
Do you know any other easy-to-care-for plants? How many do you have at home?
