Alicia Keys Shares the Key to Her Successful 12-Year Marriage

As her thirteenth wedding anniversary with Beatz is approaching in July, Keys further explained the significance of prioritizing time with one’s partner. She believes that spending time together in the midst of hectic schedules allows individuals to reconnect and appreciate one another. “You remember why you are in love, you remember why you just like each other, what’s interesting about each other,” the 42-year-old singer noted.

Moreover, Keys emphasized that this dedicated time should be viewed as equally important as daily tasks. “That time together with you and your partner is so priceless... I think it really pours back into the relationship,” the happy wife concluded.

How she felt about her husband when they first met

Keys and Beatz, both born and raised in New York City, first crossed paths at the age of 14 and 16, respectively, through a mutual high school friend. However, despite the initial introduction, Keys did not show any interest in Beatz at the time, and this continued for several years.

It wasn’t until they started running into each other at various industry events and award shows that they began to connect on a deeper level. The Grammy-winning artist described her initial impression of Beatz in her autobiographical book, More Myself, where she mentioned that he often arrived at these events with his Bronx crew, flaunting his wealth and diamonds. Initially, Keys was not drawn to that kind of lifestyle or to Beatz himself.

Surprisingly, her perception of him changed, and they ended up tying the knot.

Years later, the 2 were brought together for a music project, and Keys began to see Beatz in a different light. As they spent more time talking, she realized she was only noticing his outward appearance. She discovered that there was more to Beatz than what meets the eye, as he was well-informed about global events, which attracted her to him. “Beyond the baggy jeans and arm tats there was depth,” the star revealed.

After nurturing their friendship, Keys and Beatz eventually entered into a romantic relationship. In 2010, Beatz proposed to Keys, and they got married later that year in Corsica. The couple is now proud parents to 2 sons, 12-year-old Egypt and 8-year-old Genesis.
