Scientists Might Have Discovered How to Stop Aging, and We’re Head Over Heels Excited

Stories of the elixir of youth or the Philosopher’s stone have stirred the minds of people for many centuries. In the age of science, we have finally figured out that aging is determined by our genes, and the only thing we can do is to accept that we’re going to age, and sooner or later it will show. But Australian scientist David Sinclair believes that aging is a disease and that it can actually be treated.
Does he even age?
Respected Australian scientist David Sinclair is now 52. Being a workaholic and not exercising much, he doesn’t have a single grey hair, but according to numerous genetic tests, his biological age is 31!
“Anti-aging” molecules — fairytale or reality?
His work is focused on “anti-aging” molecules and he claims that they will increase the life expectancy of people for 10 years and allow them to enjoy a good state of health. He says that his mother prolonged her life after having lung cancer for 20 years just by taking the molecules that he gave her. His 79-year-old father, who has also taken them for years, enjoys rafting and hiking. His wife, colleagues, and even his dogs all take these magical molecules and are enjoying the results.
Aging is a curable disease.
Sinclair claims that aging is a disease that can be treated. Since aging affects everyone, the government doesn’t recognize it as a disease and as a result, won’t approve any pills made to treat it. Sinclair wants Australia to become the first country to declare that aging is a treatable condition. But until this happens, pharmaceutical and biotech companies can’t develop a treatment for aging as a disease. The only thing they can do is produce medical supplies for age-related diseases and try to keep particular organs healthy.
Reprogramming genes
Many people have already accepted that aging is “programmed” by our DNA, but Sinclair doesn’t believe this. According to him, the molecules of the epigenome send special chemical signals to our genome which leads to aging. Throughout the years he has concluded that instead of changing and editing genes, we can slow down aging by telling the epigenome genes what to do.
Biological stress is the secret of youth.
As we age, our genes get changed in our cells and begin to degenerate, and we start aging. When a special class of proteins called sirtuin is stimulated, it turns off some of the genes that hasten the aging process. This causes biological stress and forces the body to put its energy into maximizing its own health.
How do you trigger biological stress?
Before, no one knew that sirtuins could be found in mammals. Later, their features were discovered and scientists found that sirtuins could be activated by consuming fewer calories and by adding physical activity to your daily routine. The next step he had to figure out was how to trigger the sirtuins and achieve a stressed body without activating stress and human will power. The next big discovery was the molecules of resveratrol that can be found in grape skin and tiny doses of red wine. He found out that big quantities of resveratrol activate sirtuins in laboratory mice.
A crucial molecule
He didn’t stop there and has continued his research. Another field of research of his is the study of oxidized nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+). David calls these molecules the “fountain of youth.” NAD+ regulates almost every important process in our body, but its levels drop as we age. David claims that renewing the NAD+ levels in our bodies has a positive effect on our inner organs like the liver, heart, reproductive organs, kidneys, muscles, brain, and even nervous system.
Successful experiments
Experiments on mice have shown that by administering NAD+ boosters, scientists can get an old mouse to be just as active as a young one. Moreover, young mice, after consuming the same molecules, can become stronger.
Still a lot of work to do
The main goal of his experiment is to prolong the health of aging people. Needless to say, many people in Australia have already proven that Sinclair’s molecules work. He plans to continue his very promising research and who knows, maybe Sinclair will become a scientist who changes the world!
What do you think about this research? Do you support David’s ideas? Do you think that prolonging life is necessary? We can’t wait to hear your thoughts in the comments section!
