What Will Happen to Your Body If You Stop Eating Fruits and Veggies Completely
Depression, bad body odor, impaired vision — these are only a few things that might happen to our mind and body if we stop eating fruits and vegetables. There are plenty of ingredients in veggies and fruits that cannot be found in any other foods, and if we ditch them, we may experience various issues with our health.
Here at Bright Side we became curious about what exactly may happen to our body if we kick veggies out of our plates and try to only eat protein. The things we’ve discovered made us want to eat an apple or 2 right away, and we wonder if you’ll start wishing the same after reading this article.
You may have impaired night vision.
If our night vision becomes worse, it may result in a higher risk for falling in the darkness, it’s also crucial for safe driving at night. To see objects in the darkness, our eyes need Vitamin A, which can be found in 2 forms: retinol and beta-carotene. Retinol can be found in cod liver, fish oil, and eggs, but it is highly-toxic when you have too much. While eating vegetables and fruits, it’s impossible to overdose on beta-carotene.
Your body may start smelling worse.
There are a few factors that contribute to the odor we emit from our bodies. Just like eye and hair color, genetics determine the natural smell that comes from our oil and sweat glands. In addition, the food that we eat influences our body odor greatly. A study found that people who eat vegetables and fruit have a more pleasant body odor, even if they’ve not used soap or deodorant for a while.
Ditching vegetables and fruits may cause depression.
Our gut and brain are very closely connected, scientists claim. A balanced diet can not only influence the shape of our body, but it is essential for our mental health. When we refuse to eat veggies and fruits, we may have a higher risk for depression, according to numerous studies. It is a common belief that being depressed makes us eat unhealthy food, but unhealthy eating is not a result of depression.
You might see your blood pressure climb.
According to research, people who consume little to no fruits and vegetables, are at a higher risk for high blood pressure compared to those who eat them as the main part of their daily diet. Doctors highly recommend, to those who have high pressure, to stick to a diet that contains a lot of fruits and vegetables.
You could develop digestive problems.
Vegetables and fruits are famous for being a valuable source of insoluble fiber, which doesn’t dissolve in water and when it comes to the colon, it creates a bulking effect which helps the stool move smoother. Consuming a low amount of fiber is considered to be one of the main reasons why people have constipation. Dietitians start their list of recommendations for people who have a sluggish stool, with a recommendation to start eating veggies and fruit.
You might get blood clots in your veins.
Grapes, green leafy vegetables, and garlic are essential for keeping our blood thin enough to not form dangerous blood clots. In addition, vitamin C, which is found in fruits, helps significantly reduce the risk of blood thickening and clotting, so it’s vital for our blood and heart.
You may have an uneven skin tone and dark circles.
Dark circles under our eyes can be caused by many factors, among these are reduced blood flow, which can lead to the bruise-like color of our skin. Vitamin K, which is found in broccoli, spinach, cabbage, and lettuce, helps our heart pump blood freely through our body and prevents our body from bruising. The deficit of this vitamin can lead to an uneven skin tone, skin damage, and a blue-ish hue of the skin.
You may start spending more on dentist bills.
Eating an apple or other fiber-rich fruit and vegetables cleans our teeth in a natural way, like a brush, and increases salivation. When our mouth is properly watered, harmful acids and bacteria are washed away. Fruits and veggies also contain vitamins A and C, as well as calcium, which makes our teeth stronger and prevents them from falling out.

Me too! I eat meat rarely though and fish, but I couldn't live without vegetables. And reading this made me think I made the right choice ;)

I couldn't never be a vegetarian, I mean ditching meat? no way. But also ditching veggies? NO way! I just need a balance in my diet ;)
I agree with the balance diet, but what's actually balance? Same amount of meat and veggies? I don't think so :)
Of course not, veggies are always on top ;)

If people were taught the proper human diet these and many more health problems would be solved. Lies have caused the obesity epidemic. This article is oppinion based and the study sited is contradictory. Shame on you Bright Side. Dig deeper or stay away from giving medical advice without a degree.
