14 People’s Secrets That Are More Intriguing Than a Soap Opera

Probably, many people have a secret that they carefully keep and don’t tell anyone. And if it suddenly comes out into the light, it may well upset others. This is what happened in the stories in this article. Some secrets are quite harmless and even cute, but others are too intriguing.

  • When my dad died, we were at the funeral and one of my aunts was sat behind me. As the service went along I became aware that she was crying, not usual funeral crying but sobbing, absolutely heartbroken sobbing like she was never going to be the same again.
Curious now, I started listening to her, and she distinctly said through her tears — while she was sat with her husband — “I always loved you.” What was this? Far as I knew, they’d never really had anything to do with each other.
I rarely saw that branch of the family. She was my mom’s sister and lived elsewhere, but I never questioned it. It was just something that was.
A couple of weeks later, I started asking questions. Firstly, my sister, she didn’t know anything. Next, my other aunt and she warned me not to mess in old history. Eventually I got the story in pieces.
Turns out that my aunt and my dad had a pretty nice affair in the 60s. They were on the verge of running away together and there was a massive family scandal that was hushed up, and my aunt moved away. Before that, they were as close as sisters ever could be. © disco54 / Reddit
  • I met a guy. We exchanged phones, he wasn’t on social media. We walked, went to cafés, evening romance. Kisses strictly only on the cheek, without hints.
A week later, he introduced me to his friends. All good, but at one point, when he picked me up, I saw a ring on his ring finger, and as soon as I turned away — the ring was gone. That same evening, I decided to find out more about him.
It turned out that he was married and had recently had a child. And his friends said, “What’s the big deal?” I stopped communicating at once. © Overheard / VK
  • Had an ex that spoke very little English. She would say she’s going to work and leave the house for like 4 hours. She worked at a “studio” she would say. She had nice things and money.
After dating for a month, I find out the studio she was going to was the largest record label in Japan, and she was their top violinist. She made more money than me working like 18–20 hours a week than I did working 50, and I was making at least $80,000 back then. Oh, and her parents were also well-off. © Ghimel / Reddit
  • My husband is sure that he is extremely lucky to have me. He says I am like an angel: I let him go to roll balls in billiards and watch football with his friends. And the whole secret is simple — his best friend, a colleague — my reliable informant.
Wherever my husband goes, my friend is always there and sends me regular updates. As a result, everyone is happy: my husband is happy to be free, his friend is not bored, and I sleep well, knowing that everything is under control. • Yesterday I was talking to my grandmother, she confided in me about her first love at the age of 15. Suddenly, she started laughing and said, “And his name was like your father’s.”
My grandmother named her son after her first love. She said she loved him all her life, my grandfather too, but in a different way. So, I listened to this story, and it was all so touching. © Chamber #6 / VK
  • When I was 15, I had a boyfriend. We had no place to meet: he had little brothers at home and the mother on maternity leave, and I had a grandmother who almost never left the house.
I told her, “Why don’t you go for a walk? To the shop or to a friend’s house?” And she replied, “Why don’t you go out?” I thought she didn’t know what I was trying to do.
One day I said, “Grandma, I’m going out!” But at the last moment, my plans were cancelled, and I stayed home. I’m sitting quietly in my room.
Then I hear the front door open and a man’s voice, “Where’s your granddaughter?” And the grandmother was like, “Out for a walk.” Then I went out, and that’s how I found out that the grandmother also had a suitor. © Not everyone will understand / VK
  • I met a guy: handsome, intelligent, successful. One day he organized a romantic dinner on the roof. Candles, oysters, beauty...
But suddenly the wind blew, and I saw his wig start to fly off, exposing his bald spot. He didn’t notice it at first, but I gestured, “Fix it.” He blushed, began to apologize, I could see how embarrassed he was. So, I decided to support him.
I took off my own wig, revealing short hair after chemotherapy. I had to tell him. He stopped talking, and then he cried. He hugged me and said, “My problem is nothing compared to what you’ve been through.”
Since then, we don’t hide our “secrets” anymore. After all, true love is when you can be yourself, even without a wig. © Not everyone will understand / VK
  • Only after 3 years of living together, did my husband find out what I like to eat the most. It was my little secret, because I love to freeze sausages and gnaw on them like ice cream. This is my quirk.
When my significant other first saw this, he raised his eyebrows and said, “That’s okay. I like fried dumplings. I make them when you’re not home.” Ew, how can anyone eat fried dumplings?! © Not everyone will understand / VK
  • I always look impeccable in the office. Colleagues praise my appearance, girls from the office wonder how I look so fresh after an hour-long commute.
The secret is that I arrive at work 40 minutes before the office hours. I wear sweatpants, look uncombed and sleepy. I wake up with coffee, then do makeup, change into my office clothes, put on heels, do my hair and meet colleagues all beautiful.
I have no desire to tidy up at home in the morning. On the road, my hair will fall apart, my clothes will get dirty. So, I arrive looking like a homeless, and then I turn from a pumpkin into a human being. It’s good that only the guard knows about my secret. © Not everyone will understand / VK
  • When my grandfather passed away, we discovered that he didn’t exist. His name was not in any government registry.
He was a normal citizen, paid taxes, had a license and everything. Lived a long life, married to my grandmother for over 50 years, had multiple children, everything normal. Still to now, no one knows who he really was and why he had a false name. © daveypump / Reddit
  • I recently found out that my parents hid a relative from me. Yeah, I never knew I had a cousin. It turns out that his mom had once quarreled with mine, and they stopped communicating.
I was shocked when I accidentally saw his photo in an old album! I immediately rushed to my parents with questions, and they were like, “Yeah, we didn’t tell you.” Can you imagine this? A lifetime of hiding! Now I want to meet him, but I don’t know where to start. © Chamber 6 / VK
  • My husband had a mistress for 4 years! He did everything so quietly and cunningly, I had no idea. And I found this out by accident.
I went with my daughter to my mother for the weekend. I was sitting one evening, scrolling through the social media feed, and I saw a photo of a beautiful bouquet in the recommendations. I look at it and realize that in the background there is a kitchen table similar to ours. I thought many people have a table like this.
But it stands in the same corner, and the wallpaper is visible a little bit. I went to this girl’s profile. And there’s a picture of my husband’s car. A picture of her holding his hand. I recognized his watch.
At that moment, I felt like the ground had vanished beneath my feet. I even remember feeling dizzy with the realization that he had another woman. © Ward 6 / VK
  • I work as a General Practitioner. An 18-year-old schoolgirl and her mom came to the clinic for the first time. I sent them to register, and when they came back, her mother was shocked.
It turns out that the daughter had secretly married and changed her surname, which the mom noticed on the new medical card! © Ward #6 / VK
  • Found out that a long time golf buddy of mine was a professional ballroom dance teacher in his previous years. The guy is 300+ pounds and just didn’t give off “ballroom dancer” vibes. My wife of 10 years used to work for Arthur Murray dance schools and didn’t believe he knew how to dance, so she invited him and his wife over for dinner.
Boy was she wrong. Golf buddy twirled her, dipped her, the whole 9 yards as both myself and his wife stood there with our jaws on the floor. After going through 7 different dances with my wife, he twirled her one last time toward me and said, “told you so.” © this-aint-frankie / Reddit

And these people discovered a secret that changed their lives forever.
