An Oscar-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe says she finds it ‘really hard’ to get dressed up glamorously. But over the years she learned a lot. She found out how to gracefully shut down the trolls and found her true love, proving every hater wrong. Let’s find out more about the self-love journey of this incredible woman!

Gabby was trolled for her weight, but it never broke her down.

Gabourey Sidibe is a successful actress who gained fame with her acting debut in the 2009 film Precious. This was a role that earned her the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead, in addition to nominations for the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Actress. Her other film roles include Tower Heist (2011), White Bird in a Blizzard (2014), Grimsby (2016), and Antebellum (2020).

In her interviews she candidly opened up about her struggle with public feedback, and revealed her life has never been a bed of roses.

She admitted that it has always been a challenge for her to get dressed up glamorously. She used to receive tons of negative comments because of her weight. “If I wear purple, somebody will call me Barney. If I wear white, a frozen turkey. If I wear red, a pitcher of Kool-Aid. These are actual tweets I’ve gotten,” says Gabby in her interview.

“Twitter will blow up with nasty comments about how a recent earthquake was caused by me running to a hot dog park. Diet or die, they say.

The strong woman learned how to silence the trolls with style and manner.

Gabby quickly learned how to win, and now she finds strength in a higher power. Once, the actress posted a photo to Instagram of her and a couple of friends having a night out, captioning the image, “On our way to ya mans house....”

The caption was written as a joke, but one user didn’t find it funny and let Gabourey know (in some rude language). The actress ignored the message, but the same person then told Gabby that she looked like a “boy” and added, “Go find your sides and stop wearing fake hair.”

Gabourey tamed the rude person in the nicest way possible, writing: “I’m not sure why you’re so mad, and I don’t need to know why, Betty. What I do know is that you are clearly suffering, and you’re probably reaching out in nastiness in order to get some attention, and you’ve got mine. You have my attention and my concern and now my hand extended to you in prayer that your situation and your heart is healed.”

The actress has finally found her true love, too.

Gabby hates weddings, and she secretly married her husband right in the kitchen. Gabby met her husband Brandon on the exclusive dating app Raya.

I couldn’t imagine dating someone I actually liked. Turns out, totally possible! So, I’m really happy to have been wrong about where I saw my life going, partnership-wise. Brandon is an incredible, incredible partner,” says Gabby in her interview.

The spouses kept their wedding a secret for a year. Her husband wrote in his Instagram, “Relieved we can finally tell the world. So thankful to have found my forever person, my partner-in-crime, and the love of my life. Every day is the best day with you.

The story of Gabourey Sidibe may become a huge inspiration for people who are struggling with self-love and self-acceptance. Here’s another story about a famous singer Lizzo, who breaks all stereotypes and helps people all over the world love themselves and respect the body they were born in.
