“She Ghosted Me!” How Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt Started Their Unusual Friendship
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt’s unexpected friendship is undoubtedly one of the unique ones in Hollywood. Despite having completely different personalities, the 2 developed a mutual admiration for one another while working together on a movie and are now extremely close. We found the story of how they first met unusual and hilarious.
Dwayne Johnson has been a big fan of Emily Blunt since The Devil Wears Prada.

Johnson had been a fan of Blunt ever since he saw her in The Devil Wears Prada. “I had always admired her as an actor, but also when I would watch her on talk shows, she had this personality that was effervescent, that was cool and very, very charming,” he said. So when the opportunity came to star opposite her on Jungle Cruise, he went the extra mile to get her to accept the role.

In an extra effort to get Blunt, who had, until this point, refused to be a part of the film, to get on board, Johnson even recorded a video to convince her. According to Johnson, he shot the video about 5 to 6 times before getting it right. “I wanted to let her know via this video just how important she was to this movie and how I only wanted her in this movie,” admitted the actor.
However, she ended up ghosting him and never responded.

Blunt never actually responded to Johnson’s video and ghosted him. However, in an interview, Blunt said she thought “the video was sweet.” And in the end, it convinced her to be a part of the film, marking the beginning of the duo’s close friendship.

Even after filming for Jungle Cruise ended, the 2 continued to stay in touch and even confided about business matters with each other. According to Blunt, Johnson’s tough struggles in life have given him a unique insight, and she appreciates his views. “I do go to him for advice because he has lived in the trenches. He has not just winged it.”
Despite being complete opposites, both share a unique friendship and admire each other.

The 2 actors are complete opposites of one another, yet deeply admire their differences. Johnson said about Blunt, “Not only is she a huge movie star but, more importantly, really the most empathetic human being I’ve ever met.” The actress has also admitted that her co-star was a much gentler person than people thought him to be, acknowledging that he is “much shyer than people realize.”

In an interview, Johnson called Blunt a “multi-threat” and was full of praise for her. “I love her. I love her family,” he said. During the 2023 Oscars, Blunt crashed The Rock’s interview, asking him if he had worked with other actresses. Johnson replied, “None that I care about after you, no.”
“Truth is, she’s family.”
The 2 consider each other family, and as Johnson put it, “We’re all one big ohana, as we like to say in the islands.” Their bond has continued to grow over the years and is genuinely friendship goals.
