“It’s an Emotional Transition,” Jennifer Lopez Opens Up About Moving In and Blending Families With Ben Affleck

After getting back together and tying the knot in 2022, “Bennifer” has been serving us a lot of sweet moments on social media (we’re not complaining, though). And it looks like the newlyweds’ second shot at love is, indeed, more exciting, especially now that they have their kids to go with them on this whirlwind adventure. In a recent interview, Jennifer Lopez gave us a peek into their private life by sharing what the moving-in process has been like for their new family.

Affleck and Lopez each have kids of their own from previous marriages.

Affleck was married to actress Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018. They share 3 children together — Violet (17), Seraphina (14), and Samuel (10).

In 2008, Lopez gave birth to fraternal twins Max and Emme — now both 14 years old — while she was married to her ex-husband, Marc Anthony.

While doing an interview for an upcoming movie, J. Lo opened up about her personal life and about the process of combining their families. “It’s been, like, a really kind of emotional transition, but at the same time, all your dreams are coming true.”

Lopez is clearly more in love than ever, as she called her hubby “dreamy,” and described her past year as phenomenal. “Like, my best year, I think since my kids were born,” she added.

Last year, the actress and musician gave us a glimpse of her new family by sharing a video of their heartfelt Thanksgiving celebration. And one photo, in particular, tugged at people’s heartstrings — the image of Max (one of the twins) resting on Affleck’s shoulders, while the actor gave off a sweet and content smile. Aww!

Before they officially became Mr. and Mrs. Affleck, the couple made sure that all of their kids were involved in their special union. The singer said she walked down the aisle to Marc Cohn’s “The Things We’ve Handed Down,” which she described as a song about the wonderful mystery of children.

“[It] was the perfect choice, as our 5 children preceded me on the walk.” Lopez also said, “The 20 years between those dreams of youth and the adult world of love and family we embraced that day, brought more to this marriage than either of us ever could have imagined.” According to reports, the children also held her 20-foot wedding veil as she made her way down the aisle again after the ceremony.

Both Lopez and Affleck want to serve as new “allies” for each other’s kids.

Lopez says she’s pretty confident about her new family because their kids aren’t afraid to stand up for what’s right. “This generation is beautifully aware and involved and brave,” she said. She also praised Garner as a co-parent to Affleck and noted that blending families is a process that needs to be handled with care.

“What I hope to cultivate with our family is that his kids have a new ally in me, and my kids have a new ally in him, someone who really loves and cares about them but can have a different perspective and help me see things that I can’t see with my kids because I’m so emotionally tied up.”

What do you think of the couple’s journey and their efforts to bring their kids together? Have you had a similar experience with blended families?
