Keanu Reeves’ Girlfriend, Alexandra Grant, Reveals the True Reason Why She Doesn’t Dye Her Hair
It’s no secret that the beauty industry has long pushed the idea that dyeing your hair is necessary to maintain a youthful appearance. But Alexandra Grant has something else to say. The talented artist and girlfriend of the one and only Keanu Reeves revealed why she chooses not to dye her hair at all.
She went grey at a young age.
Alexandra Grant is a talented artist and philanthropist who gained media attention not just for her relationship with Keanu Reeves but also for her unique approach to beauty. At the age of 49, she proudly embraces her natural grey hair, which she started to develop in her early twenties.
She shared an article on Instagram about a study that found a higher risk of breast cancer associated with using permanent hair dyes and chemical hair straighteners, particularly for women of color. Grant expressed her shock and emphasized the importance of taking the study seriously.
Grant encourages everyone to embrace their true selves.
Grant explained: “I went gray prematurely in my early 20s... and dyed my hair every color along the way until I couldn’t tolerate the toxicity of the dyes anymore. In my 30s, I let my hair turn ‘blonde.’” She concluded her Instagram post by expressing her support for a woman’s right to choose how she wants to look at any age.
However, she highlighted that if beauty standards are causing harm, it’s essential to have a conversation about them. Grant also used the term “womxn,” an intersectional term that aims to be more inclusive of transgender women, non-binary individuals, and women of color. Finally, she sent her love to all women.
There are no musts when it comes to beauty.
Grant also pointed out that everyone’s hair will eventually lose its pigment, whether it turns gray, silver, white, or mousy brown. For those who start losing pigment early on, hair dyes are often suggested as a way to “fix” something that isn’t really a problem. Grant suggested that there isn’t enough research or consultation about the potential health drawbacks of using these products.
She also mentioned that as more public figures embrace their natural hair, the pressure to conform to unattainable beauty standards may start to subside. This could encourage more women to embrace their natural hair and feel confident in their own skin.
