Every great success requires not just hard work but also trust in oneself, as the heroes of our article can confirm. However, overcoming difficulties on the way to success becomes easier when you have support from one of the most important people — your parents. The parents of celebrities in this article were always by their children’s side.

We at Bright Side adore the way celebrities’ parents support their children, and we want to share their stories with our readers.

1. Jennifer Lopez

Being a Puerto Rican girl born in the Bronx, at the beginning of her career, Jennifer Lopez always felt like she “wasn’t the one that was supposed to be in the room.” Living in a small home with no background in the showbusiness made it hard for her to pave her way. Maybe, JLo wouldn’t become who she is now if it wasn’t for her mother.

“My mom was also the mom who got me into musicals and introduced me to all kinds of music,” Lopez shared. “I’m also able to survive the things I’ve survived in this business because my mom was tough. I don’t think she could realize what she was preparing me for, but she did.”

2. Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson’s father, Rocky Johnson, also dedicating his life to sport, was rather a strict parent. However, his way of expressing love turned the Rock into the person he is today. “The day I stopped looking for that approval was the day I understood what it meant to be a man and, more importantly, a father,” said the Rock. “That shift lifted me to a new level of gratitude for the tough love he always gave.”

3. Ryan Gosling

Turns out that the nice guy of Hollywood, Ryan Gosling, was not that conscientious student back in school. He had constant clashes with teachers and students and, hence, was homeschooled by his mother at the age of 10. Donna Gosling has always had her son’s back. She “fought with every teacher, every principal, every kid’s mother — she’s been fighting [for me] since I was born,” Gosling shared.

4. Kate Hudson

Unlike other heroes of our compilation, Kurt Russel is not a biological father but a stepfather for Kate Hudson. However, he is the one Kate is thankful to for being by her side all way long.

“This is a man who made his family his number one priority his whole life,” Hudson wrote. “Never missed a school play, a soccer game, a hockey game, a dance recital, and the list goes on and on. No matter what he was doing in his busy life, he always showed up. Not because he had to but because there was no other place on earth he would rather be than with his family.”

5. Selena Gomez

Growing up, Selena Gomez had a hard time going through her parents’ divorce. It affected her relationships with her mother, Mandy Teefey, causing numerous conflicts. However, the love and support Teefey gave to her daughter didn’t let the bond break. “My mom gave up everything for me and had, like, three jobs,” shared Selena. “She supported me, sacrificed her life for me.”

6. Saoirse Ronan

Saoirse Ronan, a Little Women star, is grateful she had her mother and father’s protection as a young actress. She was constantly accompanied by them throughout her Hollywood career. “I was never left on my own for a second,” said Ronan. “I was meeting a male director once, and he wanted me to come on my own, and my mother was just, ’No! No! That is not happening. Never!’”

7. Justin Bieber

Pattie Mallette, the mother of Justin Bieber, did not only support her son on his way to success; Bieber is always thankful to her for making him the man he is today. “This woman taught me everything I know, how to love, how to be compassionate, how to be strong when the only thing you wanna be is weak, how to stand when all you want to do is fall,” wrote Bieber.

Whose story touched you the most? Have you faced any example of the power of parents’ support?
