Gwyneth Paltrow Shares How She Feels After Seeing Her Ex Marry Jennifer Lopez

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows when a breakup comes along. However, to give up on a good person only to realize a romantic relationship won’t work may feel like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. On that note, not only has Paltrow mastered the wellness space, but she can clearly teach us a thing or 2 about how to become pals with an ex-lover and genuinely wish them well in life.

The start of their relationship

Paltrow first met Affleck in the late ’90s at a dinner party, and they dated on and off from 1997 to 2000. During those years, the pair starred alongside each other in the Academy Award-winning film, Shakespeare in Love in 1998, and later on in Bounce in 2000.

Paltrow’s honest opinion of her ex

Following their break-up, Affleck began dating J. Lo and proposed to her in 2001, but they called off their wedding in 2003 and announced their split in 2004. In response to that, Paltrow noted that she wasn’t surprised that Affleck and Lopez canceled their wedding at the last minute. “Ben makes life tough for himself... He’s got a lot of complications, and you know, he really is a great guy. So I hope he sorts himself out,” the Goop founder said back at the time.

And even though they dated for 3 years, Paltrow never expected to spend the rest of her life with Affleck, as her former partner was not the most well-put-together of individuals. “I just think we have a very different sort of value system,” she has once confessed, while also acknowledging that the relationship had been very educational for her.

What Paltrow’s parents thought of him

On a different note, Paltrow’s parents were not exactly fans of the relationship either. They did appreciate how super intelligent, talented, and funny he was, but they were okay with the 2 of them parting ways. And even though she thinks that back then Affleck was not in a good place in his life to have a girlfriend, today, the Goop founder is pals with the actor and likes him very much.

She gushed over her ex’s happy news.

Now, 2 decades later, Bennifer finally tied the knot in a secret ceremony in Las Vegas. And nearly 25 years after Paltrow and Affleck first dated, the Goop mogul has given the newlyweds her seal of approval through a gushing comment. “Love!!! So romantic!!! Very happy for them,” she wrote in an Instagram Story in a fan Q&A session, revealing she’s clearly on good terms with her ex.

She never missed an opportunity to shower the newlyweds with loving comments.

But this wasn’t the first time the wellness guru showed how happy she was for her former partner. After Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez made their red carpet return at the Venice Film Festival in September 2021, Paltrow, again, voiced her approval of Bennifer’s reconciliation writing, “Okay, this is cute,” in the comment section of an Instagram post showing the 2 love birds gazing into each other’s eyes.
